Workshop information

Here are details relating to any of my workshops, which are all listed here.

Pricing: making it affordable to absolutely anyone

Notice that you can choose the currency that suits you.

In this unequal world, I want everyone to have the knowledge to help their child, whatever their finances. I'm pricing workshops so as to (usually) cover my tech costs and have an income, and at the same time to make it affordable for those who would not otherwise come.

In this way, those of you who can pay full price are contributing to those who can't.

To pay less, no explanations needed – just use a 'coupon' on the checkout page:

  • If you choose to pay 80%, the coupon is workshop80
  • If you choose to pay 75%, the coupon is workshop75
  • And so on, in increments of 5. I'm not offering lower than 15% to try and reduce the risk of intruders. If you'd rather not pay at all, contact me and I will book you in manually.

No cost for other family members, as it takes a village to help our children. So any adult family members (partners, grandparents, aunts/uncles) can piggy-back onto your booking — just book for yourself and give them the booking info.

Limitations of the workshop: READ THIS FOR YOUR CHILD'S SAFETY

This is parent-to-parent coaching. I am not a clinician. People with an eating disorder needs expert treatment, so keep pushing for this if you are on a waiting list: keep clinicians informed of any worsening symptoms or behaviours. If your child has lost weight or is purging, make sure they are getting medical checks, and if your son or daughter has been undernourished for a while, you must get medical advice about refeeding syndrome before you significantly increase what they eat. Use accident/emergency services any time you are in doubt about your child's condition.

Don't blindly take advice from anyone in the group, including me. There is not enough time in a workshop to know anyone's individual situation well enough. Pay attention to your instincts, read and consult widely. If, as I hope, your child is in treatment, keep the clinicians in the loop if you are considering changing anything you're doing as a result of the workshop.

For everyone's privacy and comfort

You're going to be well looked after in the meeting — that's my intention. Apologies if the following sounds fierce: it's to make sure everyone is OK.

  • Confidentiality: any personal stuff said in the group stays in the group. No recording, photographing or screenshots.
  • I ask for everyone's video to be ON, at least at the start. This is to help us know that every participant is genuine, so everyone feels safe and private. If you're not sure you can make video work, you can practice on https://zoom.us/test. If you have a good reason not to have your video ON, please would you let me know ahead of time.
  • Find a private space where your children cannot listen in, as the adults must speak freely. If you think children might eavesdrop, use earphones. I prefer when people speak rather than type into the 'Chat', but typing is an option if your child is nearby.
  • Apart from the above rules, everything is an 'invitation'. Feel free to not do something, for instance you can stay quiet, and you can ask to not be included in any smaller group. You can of course click to leave the meeting any time. If anything didn't feel right, please contact me so I don't do it again.

We start exactly on time ๐Ÿ™‚

  • To respect everyone's time, we start on time, so aim to be a bit early and have a cuppa while in the 'waiting room'.
  • If you know you can't attend the full length of time, you're still welcome. If you have to join the meeting late, that's not ideal of group cohesion but we can live with it.
  • Tears and emotions totally have a place in our group. I want you to feel comfortable and safe. If you really want to leave you can just click to leave the meeting. You can come back on later.

Get comfortable with Zoom

  • Preferably use a big screen as you might find Zoom group meetings on a mobile phone awkward. Position your camera and set up the lighting so you can be seen well (I find this stops me from squinting and makes me more comfortable!)
  • In Zoom, your name is displayed: you can 'rename' yourself (the menu is on the 3 dots)
  • If you're not familiar with Zoom, feel free to try out the Zoom link you received with your booking. I've  also written instructions for a laptop/PC here, and for a phone (and I don't recommend you do this workshop on a phone) here.

Where to find the Zoom link

The Zoom link will be on the confirmation screen after you've booked. You can click to add the date to your calendar, and the zoom link will be included.

You will also get an email with the date and zoom link (Join Meeting )

Cancellations and refunds

I know things can be unpredictable. If you can't attend a workshop you booked, get in touch and I'll give you a voucher to get you onto any other workshop at a time of your choosing. If you'd rather have a refund I may withhold the ยฃ2-ish fees I incur with each booking.

Should you be dissatisfied with the workshop then I will give you a full refund.

If I have to cancel I will of course give you a full refund, or if you prefer, move you to another date.

What is your expertise?

You are right to ask, as on the internet, anyone can present as 'an expert'. Be wary of taking advice from anyone except your clinicians. Beware of any one-size-fits-all, dogmatic or shaming advice. I've seen it do harm. While I have a lot to share about what usually works, and what adaptations people have found useful, you are the expert on your child.

I will share lots of tools, lots of options, to speed up your learning and help you problem-solve… in conjunction with your clinicians.

I'm a parent, sharing what I've learned from personal experience, from other parents, from clinicians, and from years of reading and attending webinars. My knowledge is strongest on the 'restriction' side of eating disorders, such as anorexia, as that is what parents of children and teens most often present with.

I check a lot of what I do with top clinicians. Many professionals world-wide recommend my resources and send parents to my workshops. They see me as a partner in providing young people with the best care possible.  Sometimes they get me to provide training for their clinicians.
